Masters division

Approach the enclosed lay-down Masters car as a tightly controlled precision build, with the July 2026 plan beside every fabrication and setup station.

THE CLASS

Advanced does not mean unrestricted.

Masters is ISBD's advanced enclosed lay-down or feet-forward kit division. The current age window is effectively 10 through 20 and the race-weight window is 253-255 pounds. Its close-fitting body, floorboard, airfoils, hatch, steering, brake, and weight system demand accurate workmanship and careful driver fitting.

The July 2026 Masters plan is the source of truth. It prohibits shell shaping and prohibits fiberglass, carbon fiber, or similar material inside or outside the car except authorized fiberglass repair. It also controls airfoil mounting, steering-cable tension, hardware, adhesives, and inspection access.

MASTERS SETUP

Complete the legal structure before chasing thousandths.

  1. Build in plan sequence and preserve every inspection reference.
  2. Fit the racer for visibility, helmet clearance, breathing room, steering, braking, hatch closure, and emergency exit.
  3. Set the steering cable tight enough for positive response but never so tight it bows the front axle.
  4. Triangulate using the plan's defined kingpin and rear-axle references.
  5. Measure crossbind and loaded spindle alignment using only permitted correction methods.
  6. Set fixed weight with the driver in unchanged race position and the hatch handled exactly as the scale procedure requires.
  7. Reinspect airfoils, shell clearance, brake operation, and all fasteners after testing.

WEIGHT AND AERO LIMITS

Masters has an asymmetric distribution rule.

At the 255-pound ISBD maximum, the current rule allows no more than 15 pounds nose-heavy and only 5 pounds tail-heavy. That corresponds to a derived rear-axle range of 120 to 130 pounds. NDR flat-bottom Masters uses its own 5-pound tail differential and event rules.

A compact driver presentation and accurate prescribed body assembly matter aerodynamically. Adding tape to smooth an opening, reshaping an airfoil, or applying composite material is not a clever optimization if the plan prohibits it.

Masters parts are easy to damage and expensive to replace. Permanent axle or body work belongs at an experienced clinic with the current plan and an inspector present.
