WHY ZERO ERROR

Purpose-built fixtures make tiny measurements repeatable.

Competitive Derby setup asks ordinary shop tools to resolve very small geometry changes on a loaded car. Zero Error builds equipment around the actual axle, spindle, kingpin, floorboard, and scale references racers use. The value is not a secret setting; it is a stable fixture and a process another team member can repeat.

Partner disclosure: Soapbox Speed Lab links families directly to our friends at Zero Error Racing. BUY IN WORKFLOW ORDER

A fixture is most useful when the earlier references are already correct.

  1. Start with the current plan and an inspection checklist.
  2. Fit the driver and establish legal race weight.
  3. Use a trammel reference for triangulation.
  4. Measure crossbind on a verified level fixture.
  5. Use the loaded stand, Zero Bar, and gauge to measure spindle direction.
  6. Make only permitted corrections with trained help.
  7. Reapply the final fastener and cable state, then repeat every measurement.
  8. Record the baseline before track testing or wheel swaps.

Buying the entire bench at once is less important than understanding what each station proves. For a first car, a local alignment clinic can provide expensive fixtures and experienced interpretation. Teams supporting multiple racers may benefit most from owning the tools that preserve a repeatable baseline between events.
